Titanium dioxide is unlikely to be added to the REACH candidate list

ECHA's Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) has disagreed with France's proposed mandatory category 1B carcinogenicity classification of Titanium Dioxide, which would have made the substance eligible for Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) status. Due to this science committee's recent opinion, Titanium dioxide is unlikely to be added to the REACH candidate list. The European Commission has, however, recently added 12 substances to the REACH authorization list. 8 of these 12 substances are category 1B substances toxic for reproduction with a sunset date of 4 July 2020, while other 2 substances carcinogenic (category 1B) and have PBT and vPvB properties with a sunset date of 4 October 2020.
