The EPA Takes Action Against PFAS in Drinking Water

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued two actions to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water. To address these long-lasting “forever chemicals”, the EPA is reproposing the Fifth Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR 5) to collect new data on PFAS in drinking water and reissuing final regulatory determinations for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Both actions aim to support the EPA to better understand and reduce the risks from PFAS in drinking water.
