Don’t miss Vireo Advisors June 5 Workshop on the Health, Safety, and Environmental Considerations for Bio/Nano Technologies at TAPPI 2017!

In advance of this year’s TAPPI Nanotechnology Division Conference in Montreal, Canada, (June 5th-8th, 2017) Vireo Advisors will be hosting a half-day workshop on Monday June 5 aimed at small-, mid-, and large-sized enterprises interested in the health, safety and environmental aspects of working with bio-based and nanoscale materials.

Workshop discussions to include:

1. Considerations for occupational health and safety practices with nanomaterials. Topics will include occupational health and safety testing methods and resources, hazard classification and labeling requirements, and considerations for safety data sheet development. We will discuss strategies to protect workers and evaluate the safety of new products across their life cycle.

2. Data development needs and strategies. Topics include an overview of the types of information stakeholders seek, including specific testing requirements for materials with nanoscale properties, how nanomaterials should be characterized, and a discussion of the state of practice for safety testing of nanomaterials.

3.  Ongoing regulatory and policy changes. In this session, we delve into the dynamic world of regulatory policies regarding nanomaterials. Topics will include current requirements, agency proposals, and insights into future changes that may affect industry and the commercialization of nanomaterials. We will also discuss industry-led policy efforts and offer perspectives on the public perception of nanomaterials.

The workshop will follow an interactive format, with case studies and discussions led by the Vireo Advisors team (Jo Anne Shatkin, James Ede, Kimberly Ong) followed by an open question and answer (Q&A).

This workshop is intended for those who want to better understand the health, safety, and environmental requirements for various markets globally, including insights for those who are seeking knowledge about product safety, and information on how to navigate the regulatory environment to improve commercialization potential of bio-based and nanomaterial derived products.
