Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) Annual Meeting 2022

  • Marriott Tampa Waterside Hotel & Marina Tampa, Florida USA (map)

Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) Annual Meeting brings together scientists and practitioners from around the world to discuss risk analysis issues including risk management, risk perception, risk assessment and risk communication.

Vireo Advisors, LLC is pleased to present a number of presentations at this year’s annual meeting.

Dr. Jo Anne Shatkin will serve as session chair for the Roundtable: Cultured Meat and Alternative Protein Safety: Key Questions and Perspectives. The roundtable will feature panelists Dr. Kimberly Ong of Vireo Advisors, LLC, Richard Canady of Neutral Science L3C, and William Hallman of Rutgers University.

Dr. James Ede will serve as session chair for Risk Analysis of Emerging Advanced Materials and Technologies. Dr. Ede will present “Life-cycle Risk Assessment of Consumer Applications of Graphene: Outcomes, Data Gaps and Priorities” in which he will highlight the main findings of a graphene-composite LCRA (which Vireo Advisors, LLC developed for occupational, consumer and environmental receptors of a graphene composite as a case study as an independently funded US partner of the DIAGONAL consortium). Brian Zhang of Vireo Advisors, LLC will present “Safer by Design Toolbox for the Risk Assessment of Next Generation Cellulose Nanomaterials” which will provide an overview of a three-year project funded by P3Nano to develop a ‘Safer by Design Toolbox’ to evaluate the safety of functionalized forms of cellulose nanomaterials. The session will also feature Treye Thomas of CPSC and Mumtahina Riza of North Carolina State University.

Kora Kukk will discuss how approval of cell-cultured meat was facilitated by determining priority topics of safety through surveying the views of companies and regulators in her presentation "Priority Safety Questions for Cultured Meat: The Perspectives from Producers and Regulators”. These perspectives were obtained from background research into research articles, interviews and expert workshops held for discussion from cell-cultured meat producers and separately with regulators in collaboration with the research institute, New Harvest.
