New CMSI Website!
We’re excited to officially launch the Cultured Meat Safety Initiative (CMSI) New Website!
CMSI is a collaborative platform dedicated to advancing the scientific foundations of safety in cultured meat and seafood.
As cultivated protein continues to move from innovation to commercialization, robust, transparent, and standardized safety frameworks are essential. CMSI was created to bring together researchers, industry leaders, regulators, and solution providers to address shared safety challenges through data-driven research, open collaboration, and practical tools.
Our Mission
To advance shared and open safety knowledge, data, methods, and practices for the emerging field of cellular agriculture toward greater acceptance.
What We Do
Through CMSI, we organize:
In-person workshops and technical working sessions that bring experts together to address key safety topics such as culture media evaluation, ingredient safety, and risk assessment frameworks.
Collaborative research efforts where partners contribute expertise, samples, funding, or in-kind resources to generate shared scientific knowledge.
Open access resources and insights to help companies and researchers navigate evolving safety expectations and regulatory landscapes.
This new website will have the latest updates on public databases and methods we create to build the necessary support elements. Check out our latest publications and workshop summaries here!
Join Us in Chicago This February
We’re hosting our next CMSI Workshop on February 23 in Chicago, focused on cell culture media inputs and related safety topics. Please join us!
We’ll also be participating in the Future of Protein Production x Cultured Meat Symposium (FPP x CMS) later that week, where Vireo Advisors and New Harvest will have a booth at the CMS expo. We’d love to connect in person, share our work, and explore collaboration opportunities.
The CMSI website is now live at culturedmeatsafety.com, where you can learn more about our mission, upcoming events, and how to get involved!
Together, we can help build a strong scientific foundation for the safe production of cultured protein.
Get Involved:
Contribute Resources and Support
Advancing food safety in this emerging field requires collaboration across sectors. We welcome support in the following forms:
Internal expertise and infrastructure
Share scientific knowledge, laboratory capabilities, regulatory insight, or technical resources.
Funding support
Help enable targeted research projects, method development, and collaborative studies.
In-kind contributions
Provide venues, materials, analytical services, reagents, culture media components, or technical tools.
Sample contributions
Support safety evaluations by contributing relevant inputs, media components, or product samples for research purposes.
