The Atlanta based American Process, Inc. and Italian biochemical company,  GFBiochemicals have signed a JDA, along with other members of the consortium,  to create the largest integrated cellulosic biorefinery in the world.

TheNational Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NAS) were asked to form a committee in response to the order from the Executive Office of President in July 2015, in which the EPA, FDA, and USDA were charged with the responsibility of analyzing "the future of biotechnologies in regards to potential new risks and frameworks for risk assessment and areas in which risks or lack of risks relating to the products of biotechnology are well understood."

Vireo Advisors, in collaboration with American Process Inc. (API), published the article “Establishing the safety of novel bio-based cellulose nanomaterials for commercialization” in the journal NanoImpact that demonstrates how to proactively develop an industrially relevant safety testing plan for nanomaterials.

In the workplace, occupational exposure limits (OEL) are put in place in order to prevent the worker from handling the material in such a way that may cause harm to them.

Non-legally binding guidance documents are released with updated testing recommendations and a major decision about regulating nano-forms.
