Systematic Review of Toxicology

A workshop hosted in 2014 by the Evidence-based Toxicology Collaboration focused on “The Emergence of Systematic Review and Related Evidence-based Approaches in Toxicology”. In their new article entitled "The Emergence of Systematic Review in Toxicology" Stephens, et al. (2016) summarizes the workshops discussions and reviews the current state of systematic review methods in toxicology. According to Stephens, the challenges for the "advancement of systematic review approaches in toxicology, including issues of data accessibility, data integration, and workload manageability, are formidable" and highlights that agencies and organizations must continue to work together on systematic review methods, and a harmonized method of applying them in toxicology. Throughout their article, the authors examine the history and current state of systematic review methods in toxicology, the frameworks utilized by various governmental agencies, the challenges facing the application of systematic review approaches, and conclude with ways to help advance this field. The article is published in Toxicological Sciences and is publically available.
