EPA Reviewing 10 Chemicals for Potential Additional Regulation 

The EPA is reviewing 10 chemicals and the hazards they may pose to human and environmental health to see if additional regulation for the chemicals is needed. 

The chemicals under review are as follows:

  • 1,4-Dioxane:  Hazard: possible human carcinogen
  • 1-Bromopropane: Hazard: possible human carcinogen, neurotoxicity, reproductive problems and lung cancer
  • Asbestos: Hazard: known human carcinogen; acute and chronic toxicity from inhalation
  • Carbon Tetrachloride: Hazard: probable human carcinogen
  • Cyclic Aliphatic Bromide Cluster (HBCD): Hazard: toxic to aquatic organisms; potential reproductive, developmental and neurological effects in humans
  • Methylene Chloride: Hazard: probable human carcinogen
  • N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP): Hazard: reproductive toxicity
  • Pigment Violet 29: Hazard: toxic to aquatic organisms
  • Trichloroethylene (TCE): Hazard: probable human carcinogen, can affect developing fetuses, respiratory irritant
  • Tetrachloroethylene (also known as perchloroethylene or PCE): Hazard: probable human carcinogen
