Improved Clarity on Nanomaterials in the EU: REACH Committee Votes to Amend Annexes

EU Member States voted to amend REACH annexes during an April 2018 meeting to clarify nanomaterial REACH registration requirements. The proposed amendments will be used to help understand which substances registered under REACH are nanomaterials and the quantities being placed on the market. The reporting requirements will make data available to both companies and regulatory authorities about the basic characteristics, uses, safe handling techniques, potential risks to human health and the environment, and how companies are addressing those risks. The Parliament and Council are reviewing the draft Commission Regulations for three months before amendments are formally adopted by the Commission.
