USDA Releases New Guide for Animal Genomics

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced a new guide for research and funding in animal genomics for 2018-2027. This blueprint, entitled, was "Genome to Phenome: Improving Animal Health, Production and Well-Being"written by The USDA's Agricultural Research Service (ARS), the National Institute for Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and Iowa State University in collaboration with federal, academic and industry scientists. The report addresses four main goals of animal production: 1) creating genomic solutions to help producers meet future demands for animal products by a growing world population 2) increasing sustainability of animal agriculture, 3) improving animal welfare and 4) fulfilling diverse consumer needs and preferences.
