EPA Announces Plan to Reduce Animal Testing

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced this month that they will provide $4.25 million in funding to five universities to research the development and use of alternative test methods and strategies with the goal of reducing, replacing, or refining animal testing in the U.S. The EPA further stated in their memo that studies conducted using mammals should reduce by 30% by 2025 and completely eliminated by 2035. Vireo has been working with key regulatory stakeholders to advance the adoption and verification of alternative testing strategies for new substance safety evaluation since 2013.
